Will Young and Tom Latham’s New Zealand opener added 72 points before the tea break was taken on Day 2.

New Zealand forerunners Will Young (46 *) and Tom Latham (23 *) scored half a century on an impressive start against India as they led their team to 72/0 before the tea break not taken on the second day of the first test at Kanpur. Young and Latham both displayed solid defense but didn’t hesitate to play their shots either when the opportunity presented itself without any Indian player managing to pose any threat at Green Park Stadium on Friday in the second session.


New Zealand is now behind India by 273 races with all 10 wickets intact.

Young led the reply with seven Ovens – the last of which came from the final delivery before the break – in his unbeaten while Latham has two Ovens to his name so far.

While the opening session of the day was split with India scoring a few points as New Zealand hit back with four wickets, the second was dominated by Kane Williamson’s men.

India lost two wickets for adding just six points after lunch, with the Kiwis limiting them to 345 all. And then, their openers finished the session unscathed while also scoring many points.

Indian skipper Ajinkya Rahane used his five specialist pitchers, but none were able to disturb New Zealand hitters.
