UPDATE Norwood: Neighbor arrested after fatally stabbing 35-year-old man

Police say a 19-year-old has been arrested for murder following the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old man in Norwood on Thursday.
The victim was murdered on Thursday afternoon, July 21, amid a thunderstorm and downpour. A witness said police tried to save the man after stabbing him in the chest, but he was later pronounced dead.

The NYPD later said officers responded to a 911 call around 1:15 p.m. Thursday, July 21, about a man being helped at East 205th Street and Decatur Avenue in Norwood, located in the 52nd Precinct.
As noted, Bronx, Manhattan, and southeast Bergen and Westchester counties were experiencing a thunderstorm and heavy rain at the time.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a 35-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest,” a police spokesman said. “Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the victim to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.”

The deceased has been identified as Nathaniel Rivers, 35, of Decatur Avenue in the Bronx.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. Thursday, police confirmed Franklin Mesa, 19, of Decatur Avenue in Norwood, was arrested for murder, manslaughter and felony possession of a weapon.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted by a court.
