The Newcastle United Blog | Newcastle have been offered a Striker free agent – report

There was an exclusive in The Sun yesterday that Andrea Belotti’s representatives offered their client at Newcastle, Everton and West Ham. The 28-year-old is a top free agent after ending a seven-year stint in Turin earlier this summer.

The Italy international would certainly fill a need at St. James’ Park. However, he may not fit the profile as he will turn 29 before the end of the year and will be looking for a big salary.

Despite his availability, his name hasn’t been on Newcastle’s radar much this summer. He has been tentatively linked in the past as a potential option due to his contract situation. However, now that he’s a free agent, he doesn’t appear to be on the shortlist.

Difficulties adding a striker this summer could change Newcastle’s approach. They need to add firepower early on before the window slams shut in early September. Howe has just two forwards in the ranks with Joelinton’s metamorphosis into a box-to-box midfielder seemingly complete.

Chris Wood and Callum Wilson are both 30 and Newcastle may be hesitant to add another striker approaching that age. The options run out unless the budget is increased. As long as he can fit into the salary structure, Newcastle could do worse than consider Belotti.

He was Turin’s captain and has more than 40 caps for Italy. Injuries limited him last season to just 8 goals but he has consistently scored around 13-15 goals per season despite Torino often struggling in the bottom half of the table.
