No new iPad will launch alongside iPhone 14, report says

With each new iPhone generation, Apple typically uses its launch event to showcase a new iPad as well; taking advantage of everyone’s attention to show off the improved entry-level offering of its tablet family, however, that might not be the case in 2022.

Indeed, a new report believes that the iPhone 14 launch event, which is expected to take place in mid-September, will not feature any new tablets. Rumors previously pointed to a new low-end iPad as well as the planned 2022 iPad Pro, but apparently those are untrue.

This report comes from reputable leaker Eyes1122, which operates on the Korean blog site Naver (opens in a new tab). Reportedly, the new iPads aren’t canceled — instead, they’re slated to debut at a follow-up event in late October.

Some additional information about the new entry-level iPad is provided, although it’s nothing we haven’t heard before. Apparently the slate will get a USB-C port for charging, a redesign to look more like the iPad Mini, Air and Pro, with a thinner bezel and a flatter design, no headphone jack and a 5G connection.

Analysis: what about watches?

Notice the use of the word “generally” in the first paragraph of this story – sometimes there are exceptions to the rule.

One of the major ones was in 2020, which was likely the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. That year, a month before the launch of the iPhone, Apple held an event for various other devices, including several Apple Watches and the iPad Air 4.

Eyes1122 didn’t mention the Apple Watch 8, Apple Watch 8 Rugged Edition, or Apple Watch SE 2: three wearables from the company that leaks say are coming.

So we don’t know at this time whether these devices will all appear alongside iPhones, or iPads, or in a third event.

The middle option seems the most likely, however, to mimic the way shows have been organized in 2020 and to avoid fans losing interest in three different live streams. Apple could show off the two new iPads and three Apple Watches at a major lifestyle-focused event, perhaps alongside some of its other services, such as Fitness Plus and Arcade.

That’s all speculation though, and we’ll have to wait to find out what products will be showcased at the iPhone launch – there’s a real possibility we won’t know until the event is over with or without the iPhone. appearance of iPads.
