Langwith Junction murder inquest updates: third day of search after violent attack

A police murder investigation is now in its third day after an attack on an elderly couple left a woman dead and her husband seriously injured.

Freda Walker, 86, died of her injuries while her 88-year-old husband, Ken, remains critically ill in hospital.

A police update on Monday January 17 said a “significant level of violence” was used in the attack.

The couple were found at their home in the village of Langwith Junction, Shirebrook on Saturday January 15.

Deputy Chief Constable Dave Kirby, of Derbyshire Police, said: “We are pursuing a number of investigative leads, including the burglary, but we are keeping an open mind.

“I am convinced that we will get to the bottom of things.

“We are reviewing all other incidents that may be similar to this one that could be linked, but at this time we are not linking any other incidents to this one.

“Freda and Ken were very well known in the Langwith Junction area – and there was an understandable outpouring of grief following Freda’s death.

“A significant level of violence was used in this incident and while we cannot go into specifics of the offense at this time, it is not being investigated as a domestic incident. “

Nottinghamshire Police have since refused to rule out a link between the incident and a burglary in the village of Trowell.
