John Harbaugh announces Poe will be placed on IR as search for mascot for 2022 season begins

Tragic. You always assume the worst and hope for the best. Looks like our Saturday night guesses were true…

But here presents a new opportunity. This is sort of the next league and things are no different in the mascot ranks.

My opinion ? It’s time to reform the group.

For those who don’t know, the Ravens used to rock with 3 mascots. Look at these cheerful guys.

They also had their own distinct personalities. According to the most irreproachable source on the Internet (Wikipedia):

Upon his initial unveiling, Poe was one of three costumed mascots, all crow brothers named “Edgar”, “Allan”, and “Poe”. Because the Baltimore Ravens were named after the poem “The Raven” by Baltimore resident Edgar Allan Poe, it was natural to name their mascots after Poe.[2] The three not only commemorated the famous Baltimore poet, but also represented three completely different personalities and their stereotypical relationship with certain types of NFL players.

According to the story, Edgar was the first to hatch. Edgar was tall and broad-shouldered, representing the “backfield” or game players who weren’t regularly staged at the line of scrimmage. It represented linebacker, defensive back, running back, quarterback, etc. Edgar was decidedly proud, if not arrogant, and was the leader of the trio.

Allan was notably shorter and thinner than Edgar and especially Poe, but much faster. He represented receivers and running backs. Allan was a very excitable bird who always had energy to spare.

Poe was the last to hatch. Poe is short and burly representing the game’s linemen. He’s a slow, lazy, but lovable mascot. Poe regularly joins the holiday parties in his never-ending search for the perfect cheeseburger.

Then Edgar and Allan mysteriously disappeared the night after the 2008 season.

It’s time.

It’s time for Edgar and Allan to go home. Round up the gang for this season’s Super Bowl push. It’s a gigantic season in Baltimore. Grade 5 Lamar. Tons of guys coming back from injury. We want revenge on all the teams that upped our score last year when the guys were down. It’s a situation where everyone is on deck here in Baltimore. Let’s go back to Edgar and Allan and do the work that Poe can’t do.

Do it, crows. Take them home. Do it.
