Final Fantasy XVI Launches Summer 2023 For The PlayStation 5
Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XVI will be released in summer 2023 for the PlayStation 5. The news was revealed during Sony Interactive Entertainment’s State of Play livestream.
The all-new Final Fantasy XVI trailer featured plenty of story elements and a first look at direct gameplay footage. Once again, the featured story elements focus heavily on the Eikons in the FFXVI mythos, which are the Summon creatures. FF16 seems to have prepared plenty of CGI cutscenes to showcase its cinematic storyline.
All of the combat footage highlighted that players control Clive by battling numerous enemies himself. Several UI elements include his level, HP, consumables, and several actions he can perform. To the left of his HP bar, Clive looks like he can switch between Eikons powers in the heat of battle.
There were several segmented bars that appeared below the HP bars at certain points that looked like Final Fantasy XIV’s Limit Break Gauges. An enigmatic Perks feature also makes a brief appearance above the HP bar. Boss encounters feel like a more intimate affair, as Clive takes on deadlier foes in a one-on-one showdown.
The Eikons make a significant appearance in the second half of the new FF16 trailer. At times, players seem to be able to directly control Eikons to take on other summons. Several of them were listed towards the end of the sequence – Phoenix, Titan, Garuda, Ramuh, Shiva, Odin, Bahamut and Ifrit. We previously detailed some of the characters that were first introduced previously.

Introducing Titan and Garuda Dominants
We here on the Final Fantasy XVI team hope you enjoyed the trailer and we wanted to give our fans a bit more information about the Dominants of Titan and Garuda you just saw.
The meteoric rise of permanent economic adviser Hugo Kupka was sudden, even unexpected. Once an unnamed infantryman in the Republican Army, his awakening as Dominant of the Titan Eikon propelled him to the forefront of Dhalmekian politics. It was here that he used his new position as the most powerful man in the republic to exert influence over both the nation’s armies and the shaping of its policies, amassing a personal fortune in the process. Yet, while they say a man who has everything wants nothing, Benedikta Harman will teach him that money and power are far from all the world has to offer.
After emerging from the storm of cold-hearted and ruthless youth, Benedikta Harman – Dominant of the Eikon Garuda, Guardian of the Wind – transformed her talent for swordsmanship and subterfuge into a command of the intelligences of Waloed elite. It’s on a mission to find the elusive second Eikon of Fire that she crosses paths with a like-minded Clive and is forced to confront her past.
