GenSantos.com redesign

Posted by Blogie on 7 Jul 2008

I’m proud to announce the redesign of Soccsksargen’s leading blog, Bariles Republic. It actually looked good before, but now it looks even better! Blogger Avel Manansala of General Santos City asked Winston Almendras to do the complete makeover of the site.

GenSantos.com

The layout of the blog is akin to an online magazine, which is what Bariles Republic is all about: an e-zine of Avel’s beloved city. This blog is one of the top nominees in Janette Toral’s writing project, the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2008.

Winston based the WordPress theme on Arthemia, and introduced a number of modifications and his own design elements.

Congratulations to Avel for a very inspiring blog! And kudos to Winston for an awesome theme design!

MBS2 to be held in GenSan

Posted by Blogie on 19 Jun 2008

The 2nd Mindanao Bloggers Summit will be held in General Santos City. I’m proud to report that the organizing team will be led by Avel Manansala of Bariles Republic.

In the past months, the Soccsksargen bloggers have been quite active, and have been in close contact with the MindanaoBloggers core group in Davao all this time. For this reason, we are confident in their enthusiasm and ability to host the next summit.

Watch out for more announcements regarding MBS2 right here!

Rootedness

Rootedness

Let us remember….
…our rootedness to Mother earth we call home
…where we draw life from
…which nurtures and feeds our body, mind and soul

Let us remember….
…those who have battled against environmental destruction
…those who have perished for protecting our home
…those who continue to endure the suffering to make it worth living
…those who have suffered and those who have died because of the catastrophic natural devastations

Let us remember this day…
…and start acting to protect its integrity

No one else will, but US who are still living in this planet, we call home.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

A new magazine on Mindanao

Posted by Blogie on 8 Apr 2008

M logo A pioneering effort in print media was launched today — a locally-published magazine intriguingly called m.

To quote its publishers, M is "the first-ever glossy travel and lifestyle magazine that will showcase the best that Mindanao has to offer. M features stories ranging from adventure destinations, culinary pursuits, nocturnal activities, unique fashion creations, beauty and wellness, gainful business endeavors, to little known secrets about this island paradise; it is the primary source of information on Mindanao’s contemporary lifestyle."

MB Forum now online

Posted by Blogie on 2 Apr 2008

bulletin board pollYou asked for it, so now you have it!

We ran a poll asking you if you wanted to have a bulletin board for Mindanao Bloggers, and "Yes" won.

The Mindanao Bloggers Forum is now online at www.mindanaobloggers.org.

It’s still very, very new. In fact I’m still popping the bubble wrap! Meaning, there’s not much in there yet but two forums for suggestions and for complaints. Please feel free to make use of the first (the second, well, I don’t think you’d have anything to complain about… unless we take too long to finish the boards!)

Janette Toral, in her ongoing projects to bring recognition to various entities who are making their mark in the Philippine ICT arena, has published the next round of Top 100 Philippine blogs. Take a look here.

My Blog JuiceAs you might see, MindanaoBloggers.com is again on the list of the Philippines Top 100 Blogs by Blog Juice. Janette has chosen Blog Juice to measure blogs’ ranks. Our community blog’s nutritional value is 3.6 — I gather this is pretty high. And in Janette’s list, we’re at #20!

It’s Raining Sale!!!

Posted by Are-wee-der-yet on 10 Jan 2008

For some reasons I think brought about by the deregulation of air travel with the help of competition and demand-and-supply the 3 major Philippines-based air carriers Cebu Pacific (domestic and international), Air Philippines (domestic) and Philippine Airlines (domestic) simultaneously have their own seat promotions. Whew! I’m now very torn when and where to go to take advantage of these seasonal offerings, additionally I’m confused what airline to choose.

I now truly believe that our country is being dominated by Chinese businessmen that the Chinese traits and beliefs in business are being adapted in this country because you will see the lucky number “8″ everywhere. There’s nothing wrong with that… In fact, I’m thankful because a domestic seat goes as low as 8 pesos and 888 pesos for Asian destinations.

I will no longer mention the different terms and mechanics on how to avail of the low fares being offered by the 3 airlines. Just visit their websites to find out more and book online to have a hassle-free airline ticket.

Northern Mindanao’s Rapid Internet Expansion

Just read in the news that Northern Mindanao’s Internet connection expanded by 500% compared to last year’s.

Northern Mindanao had a total of 26,788 Internet connections as of the second quarter, this year, up by 570.87 percent compared to 3993 connections in the same period of 2006, a Sun.Star report said Monday.

“Of this figure, Cruztelco posted the highest increase of 1,600 percent, followed by Sotelco, 1,264 percent, PLDT, 1,003.51 percent and Philcom, 826.45 percent but those of PTT dropped by 51.67 percent,” Regional Director Teodoro D. Buenavista, Jr. of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Northern Mindanao, said.

Per share of the region’s total internet connections, however, PhilCom contributed the biggest share of 68.65 percent, followed by Sotelco, 25.46 percent, PLDT, 2.35 percent, ICC-Bayan Tel, 2.14 percent and Cable 21, 1.12 percent while the rest of the providers like Cruztelco, Plaseco, PT&T and TMSI also contributed less than 1 percent each.
